    Second-Round Advocacy Workshop on Data Management and Orientation on Data Collection Kicked Off in Bishoftu Town.

    Recognizing the vital role of archiving health and health-related data from higher education institutions, hospitals, public health research and laboratory centers, as well as domestic and international non-governmental organizations, the Oromia Health Bureau Data Management Center (ODMC) launched a two-day workshop on May 6–7, 2025, in Bishoftu Town. The event is held under the theme “Advocacy Workshop for Robust Data Management and Orientation on Data Collection.” This second round workshop brought together participants from Seven universities, Three health science colleges, Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and relevant participants of the Oromia Health Bureau. The initiative aims to foster collaboration, improve data collection practices, ensure secure data archiving, and enhance data access and sharing among stakeholders and data users.
    The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Gemechu Shumi, Director of the Public Health Emergency Management and Health Research Directorate at the Oromia Health Bureau. In his welcoming speech and briefing on the workshop’s objectives, Mr. Gemechu reaffirmed OHB’s commitment to strengthening the Data Management Center. He emphasized that the workshop is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of effective data management and to serve as a platform for coordination, early warning, strengthen surveillance, research and dialogue. He also noted that the Bureau will continue to strengthen its alliances with MoH, EPHI and other organizations to advance data quality and accessibility.
    It is important to note that one month ago, the First Round of the Advocacy Workshop on Data Management and Orientation on Data Collection was conducted in a similar manner. The first round workshop included participants from Four universities, Three health science colleges, Five Public Health Research and Referral Laboratory Centers, Two Town Administration, EPHI and Experts of the Oromia Health Bureau. After the first round workshop, data sets have been collected from organizations by oriented participants, sent and centrally archived at the Oromia Health Bureau Data Management Center (ODMC).
